The International Student Idea & Design Competition for Sustainable Neighbourhood Regeneration

Topic:
Suvela district lies next to Espoo Centre, one of the five suburban centres within the City of Espoo, Finland. The International Student Idea & Design Competition SuvelaSURGE aims at generating tools for rapid and ambitious regeneration and redevelopment of a neighbourhood with a history of social housing and poor image.
The main mission for competition proposals is to change the image of Suvela into a balanced, sustainable, agile area with culturally rich and realistically argued prospects for the close future.
The mission of the student teams is to present their ideas for regeneration and redevelopment of three existing structures – Public, Private and People – in Suvela. The three are part of the main axis of the district, although they differ in nature. The thematic approach for each is underlined and the specific mission described below.
Submitted ideas will be assessed against sustainability (social, economic and environmental) criteria and executability, life-cycle and innovation value.
